I understand ur pain. I think DJT is using the art of the deal with all countries. Things have been status quo in Canada during the liberal’s rule. Action had to b done to upset the apple cart & that’s what DJT has done. Trump believes many Canadians need an attitude adjustment, just like the Americans needed. Trump will turn out to be the best Prime Minister Canada NEVER had. His proposed tariffs have awakened us. They will lead to dropping inter-provincial trade barriers and opening up the country to a pipeline from Alberta to the east coast so we can sell our energy abroad and make big bucks at it.
Good editorial. Well said. The problem is that Canada has become weak and lax with many issues. Trudeau is a real disaster and let the country become nothing enviable. So I agree that Trump’s tariff imposition is good to stimulate our nat’l pride and hopefully our strength. And I hope it makes us more serious on many issues. Its needed. But those are just a side-effects. Best to negotiate with US and find common ground to improve the situation. Tariff war will benefit no one.
I won’t comment on President Trump or about his negative attitude towards Canada. To me, this is not about being right or wrong. It’s about respect. As our folksinging icon Joni Mitchell sang: “Don’t It Always Seem To Go, That You Don’t Know What You’ve Got Til It’s Gone?” Right now I miss our Canadian-American unique Friendship we shared. CANADA feels disrespected.
In today’s white house debacle, both sides needed an interpreter so a pause in heat could prevail! Trump is provoking European nations to support Ukraine through his mineral deal scheme. The more I watch PP on TV the better he shines as a great Canadian leader. Too bad Ontario didn’t have one like him as an alternative to Ford.
Howard, I wish Canada the best in upcoming elections. There is a reason Easten Europeans are referred to as backwards and Zelenskyy proved that today. Maybe you noticed today that Trump said he also doesn’t like Poilievre, or what PP is saying regarding counter tariffs, etc. I think Poilievre is handling the situation poorly. He should secretly set up a meeting with Trump in the next week or so, and hammer out a trade deal with no tariffs. He will make the Liberals look the fools they are! And this will guarantee him a huge majority in the upcoming Canadian election.
