Years Ago, When Anne And I Were Building Our Companies . . . We Went For Months-On-End Over a Period of Years Living on a Pittance. And Instead of Shopping for Filet Mignon at the Supermarket, we Scanned the Food Shelves for Hamburger Helper & Cheap Ground Beef.
With Great Pride . . . I Can Say, That in 40-Years of Owning our Own Businesses, Anne & I Never Missed or were Late to Make a Payroll for any of our Employees, Nor Did we Ever Miss Paying a Commission-Check or an Earned Bonus.
There Were Days . . . Far Too Many – Always At The End Of The Week . . . When Anne & I Would Go to our Bank’s Cash Machine just Before Midnight to Take as Much Cash-Advance as we Could on our Credit Cards, And After Midnight, When the Machines would Flip-Over to the Next Day, we Would Do the Same Again . . . Why Did We Do That?
Just Like Most New Small Business Entrepreneurs . . . We Were Always Strapped for Cash to Meet our Costs, which Included Payroll, Rent, Taxes, Light, Heat, Electricity & Payments to Our Suppliers . . . But The Payroll Always Came First.
Just Because Our Clients Didn’t Pay Us On Time, or Because we Couldn’t Get Paid Until the Job was Totally Done, was Not a Reason Why our Employees should Not Have been Paid 100% of What they were Promised.

Anne & I Were Married For 40-Years Before We Could Take A Proper Vacation Together.
When I Hear Politicians, Unionists & People Who Never Built A Business . . . Tell People Like Anne & Myself How Greedy & Privileged we are, and How we Don’t Pay our Fair-Share in Taxes & How Indispensable the Unions are, Especially Public Sector Unions . . . I Can Puke.
If It Wasn’t For People Like Anne & Myself . . . There Would be No Unions, because There would be No Companies & No Jobs.
Over The Years . . . Anne & I Employed Hundreds Of People, and I Could Write Books on our Employee Relationships. We Always Paid our Employees More than the Average Salary for the Same Kind of Work, and Never Demanded or Expected as Much from Any of our Employees as Anne & I Demanded & Expected from Ourselves.
Some Of Our Employees Became Friends & Valuable Contributors To Our Business, While Many Used Anne & Myself as a Stepping-Stone for Getting a Better Job, Which Was A Normal Thing To Do.
But That Written . . . Many of our Employees Started-Off like Gangbusters & Quickly Fizzled-Out Like a Soda that Lost all its Carbonation. Many Only Made the Motions, while Some Took Advantage by Showing-Up Late, Leaving Early or Not Showing-Up at all Claiming all Manner of Excuses.
And Remarkably, But Not Surprisingly . . . Many of our Employees Expressed (Some Outwardly) Envy at our Lifestyle, as if We Inherited our Good Fortune or it Just Magically Appeared.
IF THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO PROMOTE JOBS & WEALTH CREATION . . .
Stop Punishing Businesses Who Create The Jobs, Wealth & Innovations.
Stop Demeaning Independent Businesses. Kill the Red Tape. Stop Blaming Independent Business Owners for their Success. Stop Taxing Independent Businesses to Death with a Horrifically Complicated Tax Structure that Only Benefits the Accountants, Tax Collectors & Bureaucrats. Kill as Many Regulations as Possible. And Get the Hell Out of the Notion that Bureaucrats Know More About Running a Business than the People who Actually Build & Run their Own Businesses.
Stop Favoring Mega Businesses Which Employ Lobbyists To Stifle Competition.

Howard, I too just watched President Trump’s speech To The Economic Club Of New York talking about his vision for America. Meanwhile…….., Cackling Kamala, the Laughing Hyena, is hunkered down prepping for the debate next week. Americans better wake up and pay attention or we can kiss our country goodbye. The election in November is NOT ABOUT JOY!
The problem is most people don’t understand what a free market is, vs what communism is. In communism you cannot get what you want. Everything is controlled by the state. The money you earn, hours you work and articles you are allowed to both build and buy. The idea of communism being better for economy is a fool’s argument that is fed to ignorant students by leftist professors. Just as we know equal salaries and earnings in communism are also a joke.
I agree with Joe Eliott’s next-to-last sentence; socialism being a good thing has been fed to ignorant students by leftist professors for decades. Those couple generations are now throughout gov’t employment & most of the work force throughout the country. That was the Communists’ plan all along.
I puke when they say the UAW or some other union created the middle class. They never acknowledge when Henry Ford started the $5 day, when other companies were paying $2. Without business owners taking major risks and passing on the rewards, there would be no middle class. Congratulations, Howard & Anne on being bosses with enlightened skill and dedication to your employees.
Trump made it clear how important an understanding of business & finance is. People like Kamala unconsciously drive home the point with their cluelessness. She & her advisors seem to be preaching Communism. Is she aware what her mouth is saying? I fear the Left won’t realize their mistake until living under what they wrought. The left is clueless on economy and the role the businesses play. Uneducated masses are not looking for equal opportunities, they are looking for equal outcome. The left promotes this mindset. And I know exactly for you are talking about building a business. I have done it 4 times, first 3 ended in a bust. But now all the years of hard work and sacrifices payed back. On the side note – Canadian Government took away charitable designation from Jewish funds. What a shame!

Fantastic commentary, Howard! My parents built their own businesses, and struggled for many years t0 survive. From them, I learned what hard work and perseverance are. We are the people, like you and Anne, who do not rely on the government for handouts. I find lifetime government bureaucrats in high places (president, politicians, et al), who have never held a ‘normal’ job incredibly pompous, thinking only they have the answers on how to live life.

Howard, you are so right! My Parent brought me to Canada from a Communist country 60 years ago with $100.00 in their possession. Over the years with hard work and sweat they built a comfortable life for us. Nobody gave us anything and the only thing we wanted was Peace and Freedom. Over the years, slowly both have been eroded. Now there is no Peace anywhere in the world and this wonderful free Capitalist America is neither free or wonderful anymore. God save us from the Laughing Hyena !

.You remind me of something that happened many years ago. I Had a tech who habitually came in late for work and his excuse was a flat tire on his auto. I asked? When to you put air in your tires. He said on the way home from work in the evening. I said that’s your problem. Night air. Guess what, he was late the next day and his excuse was he stopped in the AM to change the air in all his tires. Some times you just can’t win.
There is a too large segment of Americans who can be fooled, coddled and given mental massages to believe anything the Communist/Marxist say. Unfortunately we have a very large part of our citizens who have closed their minds to rationale, common sense, knowledge of our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and that we need a business man to run the world’s biggest and richest business.
