Did they die in vain??? Geez, Howard, the way the world is so messed up now I’m beginning to wonder! And if they did, what a horrible injustice that has been done to them.
Why is there no mention of D-Day in the Montreal Gazette today? Similar to last year. This is bizarre, as somebody had to make a conscious decision not to run a story on it. I think the Gazette owes its readers an explanation. Is this historical revisionism at work? Just because those who stormed the beaches and flew overhead are mostly dead by now (my father died March 2023 at age 99), is this reason to stop teaching about this pivotal historical event? Soon they will tear down the statues.

Excellent. Lying is the new norm. Sad commentary on mankind. It is growing more and more apparent by the day and year that the men and women who died in WWII died in vain. Like you, I am beginning to wonder if my Father, Brother Uncles and cousins, who volunteered to join the military and face the enemy, did this all in vain. As survivors we have to dung out Ottawa and elect a civilized government. Canada cannot survive under the present leadership.

My Father was a medic in ww2, I was born in 1946, after his return, y parents split when I was 6, my mother told me later about what he was like after his return from this ordeal, they had fights, he drank, he was a good man, would hide in the corner of the bedroom from the bombs dropping on them ad he was taking care of the injured. How do you handle that!!!!!!!
Excellent column! Much as I have missed my Dad, since ‘88, I cannot tell you how many times I have voiced my gratitude that he didn’t live to see this current state of affairs. When we, the now elder children of that generation, are gone, I pray there will still be some remaining who will remember and remark the things that need to be passed into the future, and at least a few who care to hear. Some days I am optimistic, but today isn’t one of them.
I remember watching the planes flying into the towers on 9/11. People who didn’t see that and weren’t alive yet will never understand. I have always been so glad that my grandmother passed away the year before so she didn’t have to see that. This country has never been quite right since then. That’s when Dubya brought in all of those Christian-hating muslims. They snuck the Patriot Act in, too.

My grandfather’s were I’m WW1, my uncles were in WW2(the rest were in internment camps) There were no flags at half mast, the young people don’t have a CLUE what D-day was/is all about! They know nothing – no respect. The immigrants I and others have spoken to have no clue about D-day was all about. The sacrifices that were made by boys, Yes BOYS. The markers on the gravestones were from 13 to 32! When you see what’s going on in this world today it DISGUSTS me to know they died for this…
I heartily agree with the concern that is expressed by you as well as those who have commented. I agree with your statement relating to who should be able to vote! Anyone in prison should have lost their right to vote. Anyone who has not become a citizen of either Canada or the U.S.A. should not have the privilege to vote. They should be of the age of 21. Sadly there are too many people able to vote that are on welfare that have had their vote paid for by the government.
True, the world we grew up in does not exist anymore. History tells us no ‘democracy’ has managed to stay in existence. As for citizenship, it should have been attained via current law. Illegals should not be given citizenship BECAUSE the 1st act to enter was to break the law. Go back home & do it legally as current citizens have. Also 100% behind removing the law that a child born in US is automatic citizen; it’s being exploited. Bring God back because Satan is winning now.
