Even though I’m a Canadian, I truly believe that the Second Amendment is the MOST important Constitutional guarantee America has. And by extension, in a very specific way, the Second Amendment provides a degree of protection for the entire world, whether the world knows it or not.
If the government knows where all the guns are, and in whose hands the guns are held, what could possibly stop the government from seizing these guns for whatever reason?
DICTATORS SEIZE GUNS:
Pick a Dictator . . . any Dictator, and you will have the name of the leader of a regime who has seized privately held guns. Hitler seized the “people’s” weapons. So did Stalin . . . as did Mao Tse-Tung.
The reason I state without equivocation that the Second Amendment is the MOST important American Freedom, is because without the POWER to protect all of the other Constitutional Guarantees . . . THERE ARE NONE.
It’s good to know that people have what they believe to be is a virtually unrestricted RIGHT to the FIRST AMENDMENT (Freedom of Religion, Expression, Association and Assembly). But what’s the guarantee that the government won’t one day decide to limit any of those Freedoms?
What happens if a LEFTIST Supreme Court decides that there should be RESTRICTIONS on Freedom of Expression, by restricting Conservative Electronic Media, such as the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE . . . that does just that?
Or places bans on Internet Blogs that foment political and social unrest like this one does?
THIS IS ALREADY THE LAW:
What happens if the government . . . backed-up by the Supreme Court takes away your religious RIGHT not to support abortion in any manner, or FORCES businesses which are owned by people who have strong religious convictions to provide contraception devices, who do not want to contribute to casual sex?
Under these circumstances where the government has already contravened the RIGHT of the individual to enjoy his or her FREEDOM of Religion, what is the remedy for people who will not surrender their beliefs?
Will they be fined out of existence? Or placed in jail for non-compliance (contempt)?
The government campaigned with all-out VIGOR for Obamacare on the PROMISE that the healthcare law IS NOT A TAX. But, they also argued that they had the RIGHT to FORCE people to purchase a product, arguing that it did NOT violate a Constitutional RIGHT – which it did.
But, when it came before the Supreme Court, Chief Justice John Roberts let the government off the hook by deeming that the cost of Obamacare charged to the people was a indeed a TAX; therefore, NOT in violation of a Constitutional GUARANTEE not to force people to buy a product against their will.
In effect, between the government and the Supreme Court, the people were indeed FORCED to buy something they did not want to buy through an insidious display of semantics.
What is most incredible about this Obamacare decision . . . is NOT just that the majority of the people were against this policy, but that it became the Law of the Land by a decision made by just TWO MEN, Obama and Roberts . . . SO WHERE’S THE CONSTITUTIONAL GUARANTEE?
HISTORY ALWAYS REMOVES ALL DOUBT:
When the government decides that the government knows better than the governed, and the people have nowhere to seek redress, except through themselves, that’s when the government decides to take away from the people, the tools by which the people can regain control of their own destiny and national Freedom.
What we are seeing throughout the USA is an ALL-OUT assault on just about all of the FREEDOMS that made America the GREATEST country that has ever been.
We are witnessing a President who ignores Congress and governs by FIAT through Executive Order; who has empowered by his own personal choice a cadre of unelected and un-vetted “Czars”, who are instituting non-debated REGULATIONS that are stripping all manner of RIGHTS away from the people.
HOW DO YOU FIGHT BACK TO PRESERVE THE REPUBLIC?
What are the people supposed to do to fight-back for their FREEDOMS and RIGHTS, when in truth, the opposition Republicans are no real opposition whatsoever, who more or less go along to get along?
A government, or perhaps more succinctly, a government leader who wishes to govern by FIAT, outside the rules and regulations that the FREEDOMS of the country are based upon, will always be keen to take TOOLS of defense out of the hands of the people.
TIMELESS WORDS:
ABOUT TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS AGO, a true American Patriot by the name of Thomas Jefferson warned the people that this is a fear and a challenge the people will always have to face and be prepared to defend, if indeed they wanted to keep their FREEDOM.
“And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.”
And at about the same time, a different great Patriot and defender of Freedom, Benjamin Franklin wrote:
“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
How would you measure-up prior to 1776? Would you have been a Patriot? Or would you have gone along to get along?
As for my opening comment on the Second Amendment affecting the world: As long as the Second Amendment keeps the American Dream alive and vital, America will be there to keep the world FREE.
It’s as simple as that.

Howard, excellent editorial!!! As for some, of the US Citizens, who have written today … Yes, we must listen and listen good, but, we NEVER need to lose heart, for our beloved USA!!! If, most really knew their history, they would know that General George Washington, fought for our country’s freedom, against ALL odds. Technically, the US Revolutionary Army, should have LOST, not won … But, they did … Because, of heart and a cause, they believed in.
