Our North American Cornucopia

COMPETITION IS THE ESSENCE OF SOCIO-POLITICAL FREEDOM:
ON THE ROAD AGAIN . . . TONIGHT IN WATERTOWN N Y – TOMORROW HOME:

This Has Been A Long Journey (1,000 – Miles), Even Though Anne & I Have Journeyed Much Longer . . . But the Older We Get, the More We Appreciate the Amount of Time Spent, and the Least Amount of Time Left to Waste, which in the Final Analysis is the Only Thing that Exists that Cannot be Duplicated or Recalled.

Once Our Life Journey Comes To An End . . . It Is Forever Ended As We Have Known-It, which Makes Every Journey We Experience at this Age all the More Meaningful.

I Write Because I Question. I Opine Because I’ve Learned Things. And if there is Nothing Else I Can Leave Behind When my Journey is Done, I Hope it will be a Legacy that I Made the World Even a Little Bit Better for My Having Being Here.

IN MY LAST EDITORIAL – I QUESTIONED WHY THE TARIFFS?

The Responses I Received Answered None of My Questions, Other Than To Demand More Questions.

We Live In The Land Of Cornucopia . . . which is Best Described as the Horn-Of-Plenty, where we Want for Nothing in Terms of Food, Lodging & Care. I am Totally Unaware of Any Time in World History When so Many Had so Much as We Do in North America . . . So Why Do We Want To Jeopardize What Has Taken Generations For Us To Create?

THE STARTING POINT OF WHAT WE NEED:

There is No Question in My Mind that We Need Whatever it Takes to Defend Ourselves with our Own Weapons & Trained Troops to Use those Weapons.

We Also Need to Guarantee our Education, Training & Medicines, Leaving None of our Healthcare & Technologies to the Whim of Others, just as We Need to Guarantee our Continuing Source of Energy & Sufficient Supply of Food & Water. But Beyond that, Much Of Everything Else Is What We Want Far More Than What We Need.

Let Me Assume That Donald Trump Will Succeed In His Tariff War . . . What Will It Give Us?

The Current American Unemployment Rate Is 4.1%, which is Defined By all Capable People who are Actively Looking for a Job.

At 4.1%, It Is Generally Considered To Be Full National Employment.

If Trump Is Successful, and Brings a Mass of Industries to America from Foreign Lands, where are the Factories Going to Find the Workers? Wasn’t (Isn’t) that the Excuse Used by Corporate America for the Flood of Immigrants, Even though they were (Are) Illegal . . . That America Desperately Needs Workers?

In Our High-Tech World, with AI Creating Technologies that Replace Human Workers with all Means of Robotics, How is the New World Order Going to Supply Jobs for the People, which is Why Big Unions like the Dock Workers’ Unions are Writing Into their Contracts . . . That AI Is Persona Non-Grata In The Work Place.

Let’s Assume Again That Trump’s Tariff War Is Successful . . . and Trump’s Policy Wrestles Millions of Jobs Away from Foreign Countries to Bring to America, which Would Impoverish Many if Not Most of the Countries that Loses those Jobs . . . What Would Be The Benefit To America.

AMERICA LIKE CANADA WAS CREATED AS A TRADING NATION:

At The Beginning Of America, America Traded Minerals, Lumber, Food, Cotton – Etc to the Four Corners of the World, which Established the Economic Greatness of America. Today, in Addition to Hard Products, America Sells Science & Technology.

America Is Still The Greatest Trading Country That Probably Ever Existed. So What Happens When Trump’s Tariffs Weakens Poorer Countries While also Making Middle Income Countries Poorer too, to the Point they Won’t be Able to Buy Anything Made in America.  Who Then Will America Trade With?

COMPETITION IS THE ESSENCE OF SOCIO-POLITICAL FREEDOM:

I Know of No Other Economic System that Guarantees Freedom as Much as a Capitalist Society, Because Competition Guarantees Quality, Value & Best Prices.

So What Happens When Global Competition Disappears From The World Of Commerce?

We All Know The Answer, Or Should Know The Answer . . . Without Competition, Quality Goes Down, Variety Ceases to Flourish, Prices Go Up . . . and the Horn of Plenty Becomes Diminished, Which Is Why In America, There Are A Plethora Of Laws That Forbid Monopolies & Corporate Conspiracies To Defeat Competition.

MAYBE YOU HAVE THE ANSWER BECAUSE I DON’T:

Amongst Republicans, Democrats & Independents . . . Many Are Asking The Following . . . What is Trump’s Endgame? When will We Know When it will End? How will We Know of its Progress . . . And How Will We Know If It Is Successful & To Whom?

AND THE BIGGEST QUESTION – WHAT HAPPENS IF IT DOESN’T WORK?

In This Editorial . . . I Am Not Making A Statement – I’m Only Asking Questions.

Best Regards . . . Howard Galganov

  1. What Trump wants is to isolate America’s wealth in America. That cannot happen. Trade rules. Asia (including Japan) will eventually be a trading block that trades minimally with the west trading block.

  2. Free trade, an open market, no tariffs, no subsidies for Kebec, competition… Sounds nice. But it will not happen, why? Commie – xenophobic, bigoted, anti-English language Kebec controls it all $ = Ottawa = high taxes, big government, massive debt, censorship, control…grants, subsides, equalization (money laundering into Kebec), transfers…Ottawa – the country is a mess, crooked and corrupt to the core…Commie franco -Kebec controls it all. This IS the problem. And no-one will touch it.

  3. These tariffs are essentially put in place as a result of an insurmountable debt that if continued would bankrupt the USA. Trump’s new tariffs aren’t a trade tweak—they’re the first move in a full-spectrum reset. $9.2T in debt matures in 2025. Inflation lingers. Alliances are shifting. But here’s the problem: American factories can’t scale up overnight. So in the short term, consumers will face higher prices. The administration knows this. That’s why they’re front-loading the

  4. Good questions! In an article I read last week, 3 locales were identified, each dramatically mishandled by the U.S. narcissist, bully, and despot President that he is and has become, although much of the Trump administration agenda appears to have considerable merit. Ukraine, Greenland, and Canada. And why these locales? Energy, resources, and rare earth minerals desperately needed for the USA to be safe in supply, moving forward. Perhaps some questions answered but definitely not resol

  5. It’s laughable that the Usa is doing this for the rest of the world , out of the goodness of their hearts. Greed and political bravado is a more likely reason. Forcing factories to come back and paying its workers umpteen more $’s will increase the price of goods by alot more than they are now. Just another wrench in the wheel of a dumb plan. But yeah unemployment might get down to 3% if they can find enough workers. These actions are a big lose lose for America and the rest of the world.

  6. What Trump has shown the world, aside from the fact that he has no understanding of international trade (a recent Gallup poll showed 80% of Americans believe they have benefited from international trade), is that America cannot be depended upon as an ally. This is damaging beyond comprehension. Certainly beyond Donald Trump’s comprehension.

  7. Great questions. You do a lot of thinking. I love your thinking. Answers to come much later. Depending how the 20 million or so illegal immigrants are handled the workers needed might already be here. I seriously doubt Homan will get much more than the bad umbrae’s deported. I do read that it is estimated a quarter million have self-deported. People are resilient and find new ways to make an honest living. Often in the end it is even an improvement. Do not sell people short

  8. The developed countries (Canada, Australia, all of Europe, etc.) are now captured by the globalists. The U.S.A. is in total chaos after Biden’s 4 years. Outsourcing production is destroying the middle class here. We don’t even grow our food anymore. The elite few have been rising; the middle class plummeting. We need to produce energy, food and everyday goods. When industries return, the U.S. market will support them.

  9. Our actual unemployment rate is slightly over 8%. There will be plenty of competent workers here to do the jobs. Thank you.

  10. The top 90 countries, by size, all have a trade surplus with the US. In simple terms they want the US markets but not US products which could compete with their own. Here in Europe you could count the number of US cars seen, on one hand. Look at Mercedes etal in the US by comparison.

  11. I am not a fan of Trump but a fan of America. Obviously Trump is far superior to what we had before. Time will tell that what Trump does today will be beneficial tomorrow. I have my thoughts and beliefs in what is going on but that is just what they are “Thoughts and beliefs”. Time will tell the outcome of today as it always does. Meanwhile the media goes on and on and on with their blathering but the answer and truth surfaces with the passages of time.

  12. It comes down to one simple question. Do you want to be on the winning team? The US has created a long list of losers in the past 250 years. I’m sure the EU would love another member added to its rolls (Canada). Having served in the US Army for 24 years and worked and fought against a number of countries… complacency will be your death. If you are unwilling to train hard and fight to the end for your survival then, for what? I pray others get on the train!

  13. It’s hard not to know what will happen. All I know is that America’s path had to be changed because we were skirting the edge and would not be able to recover. I favor rooting out fraud, incompetence, duplication, illegal immigration, and waste of any kind. I love my country and also respect countries like Canada and Israel. I think we have to work together in order to meet with any success.

  14. Trump attacked the world with tariffs the same way he attacked border & DEI. The silent majority applauds his war on pronouns but are reeling from tariff consequences as boomers look at their 401k statements. Killing woke does not raise prices. Tariffs do. My recommendations: 1) Focus on American oil/gas production 2) Repatriate all pharmaceutical manufacturing (why trust China to make our meds when they are simultaneously killing us w Fentanyl?). 3) Tariffs; slow down; one country at a time.

  15. This is what deglobalization looks like, dissolvement of the old agreement of post world War 2 and the Soviet era. For 50 years the US has been heading to the cliffs edge, because we attempted to maintain that system and role of worlds policeman on the backs of the American taxpayers, no more! First things first, stop the car, slow down and turn the wheels from a suicidal path lest we become europe, Britain et al. Pulling geographically adjacent, close proximity neighbors closer makes sense.

  16. You’ve asked a question that I’m sure that other pundits haven’t asked: Where are the Factories Going to Find the Workers?” Here’s a partial answer: ” It ‘s possible that the managers of these new factories will do a background investigation and find there will be a shortage of future employees who already live here, a request will be asked of the Trump organization to allow immigrants who are already experienced from their country to move here and take the unfilled jobs.

  17. Other than Can & Mex, the other tariffs appear to be reciprocal according to the listing in a news article. I’m in agreement with those who say “wait and see”. Everything else is just so much guess-work. I figure it’s his “art of the deal” he’s working out–Panama, Greenland figuring into this whole picture as well. He told us we’d see difficult times at first. A majority wanted him in WH, so wait it out. I predict he’s wanting this done quickly–prior to 2026 mid-terms, just in case.

  18. You have obviously not been to Detroit, just to name one. Our middle class, working class have been hollowed out and left behind. This is to enrich the “elites” and cut out the working class. It is to create the “workers’ that all communist, Marxist, Racist countries require. We have expanded welfare, food stamps, workman’s comp, and paid protesters because we have few middle jobs left. The middle class taxes are paying for their own extinction.

  19. Manufacturing builds wealth, that was how the USA became prosperous. Service jobs don’t build wealth. Tech companies to save a buck outsourced to mostly Asia, and now people flip burgers, etc. Unless Trump succeeds the Western world is done. Plus $37 trillion in debt will end us and the world sooner!

  20. Trading stops when one side has all the money (America) and the other side (rest of the world) has none and it’s already happening. Vis, Canada is looking to offshore trading bypassing America. Trump will not solve America’s problems with tariffs and is simply isolating the country and pissing of the world who will not forget.

  21. Because of corruption & greed, mainly, & other reasons, the USA is headed for bankruptcy (37 trillion & growing) Trumps plan has to work or we’re doomed. If we go down, who will protect Israel? I’m not the smartest one on the block, but know we cannot continue the way we have been going. I believe Trump is trying to do his best. Yes, we will have to go through a period of correction, only time will tell the outcome. Hope & pray. I have enjoyed your articles for years.

  22. The current state of affairs is 50 yrs. in the making. We decided we could print or borrow all we wanted to pay our bills. Our new business plan is borrow or print more to pay the interest on the money we borrowed and printed.Expecting Trump to wave a wand and fix this in 6 months is a little far fetched even with his positive thinking.I did have to chuckle Mon. morning at the billionaire class crying that one of their billions was missing. The Bible warns us about storing our treasures on earth.
