The First Amendment Is Not A Freedom To Lie

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IS TOO PRECIOUS A FREEDOM TO ABUSE:

There Is No Audio Broadcast With This Editorial.

It’s Kind of Disappointing to me, when I think my Editorial (Message) is as Clear as Glass, not the Frosted Kind, but Rather the Crystal Clear Kind – AND SOME PEOPLE JUST DON’T GET IT!

But Then Again . . . Most People Seem To Really Get It.

Yesterday’s Editorial was all about RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM. It wasn’t about a Person’s RIGHT to Freedom of Expression . . . IT WAS ABOUT A PERSON’S RIGHT TO CONVEY THE “TRUTH” AS PART OF THEIR FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION.

The Quebec (Canada) Defamation Court Case, which was Awarded to the Moslem Plaintiff (Young Female Activist), wasn’t About whether she Supported Moslem Terrorists or Terrorist Groups, or whether she Hated Israel & Jews, and Promoted Jewish & Israeli Hatred, or Covertly tried to Undermine Western Style Democracy in favor of Sharia Law . . . But Rather, Whether the Defendant Could Prove Those Allegations, Many Of Which He Made On His BLOG.

One of the Readers of Galganov.com, who has been Reading and Responding to Me for Many Years, who also from time to time Supports this BLOG Financially, Entered A Comment Yesterday, which Apologized for Disagreeing with me by Stating . . . .

To Paraphrase . . . Bloggers should have Every Right to Make any Statement They Wish, and it is the Person who Feels Offended to Prove Otherwise.

I Rarely Exchange Opinions Via Email when I Disagree or Agree with a Comment, but, because of this Long Term Relationship He & I have had over the Years, it Bothered me enough to Fire-Off an Email Response.

Essentially – I wrote . . . Freedom of Expression gives us the Opportunity to State the FULLY UNBLEMISHED TRUTH, but Freedom of Expression does Not Give any of us the RIGHT TO LIE, ASSUME AND/OR STATE OPINIONS AS FACTS.

I Went Further . . . And gave this Example in my Email: Imagine a Little League Coach, of Terrific Repute, Tremendous Ethics & Morality – and Compassion . . . who is a TACTILE Person.

A Tactile Person Is Someone Who Is A Toucher . . . Not In A Sensual Way, but a Person who likes to make Physical Contact, who likes to Kiss Hello or Goodbye on the Cheeks, or Hugs when Greeting . . . I’m Not That Kind Of Person – But I know many who are, which doesn’t make them Sexual Deviants.

IMAGINE IF THE COACH WAS YOU!

So Imagine This . . . The Aforementioned Tactile Coach – who is Beyond REPROACH, is seen by a Person who writes a BLOG, who doesn’t Know the Coach from a Hole-In-The-Wall, sees the Coach with an Arm on one of the Coach’s Players, and Immediately Assumes that the Coach is a Pedophile, and uses His or Her BLOG to Expose this Coach as a Sexual Juvenile Predator.

How Would That Be The Proper Use Of Freedom Of Expression?

After reading my Email, the Commentator Emailed Back with an Apology, asking me to remove his Comment, which I did.

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IS TOO PRECIOUS A FREEDOM TO ABUSE:

Some People have written that BLOGGERS Need More Latitude, because they’re not Financed by BIG MONEY as are the Mainstream Media, and don’t have the Wherewithal to Hire a Staff of Researchers, Editors & Fact Checkers, which Actually is WHY Bloggers like me should be Super Careful . . . To Be Trusted All The Time.

IT DOESN’T JUST SEEM TO ME, but it is Indeed the Case, that Writers and other Media Types (Radio & Television), which include Journalists & Pundits (Opinion Writers), who work for Mainstream Media with Large Research Staffs, Editors & Fact Checkers . . . GET IT WRONG ALL TOO OFTEN.

It’s Not The Tools At The Media’s Disposal . . . It’s How The Media Use The Tools.

For the Media, Including BLOGGERS . . . Getting It Right Some Of The Time – Or Mostly Right Much Of The Time – IS NOT ACCEPTABLE ANY OF THE TIME.

If Bloggers are the “Pamphleteers” Of The 21st Century, much like Throughout History, Waging an Information War against Tyranny, which I Believe They (We) Are . . . That’s An Onerous Responsibility.

And because Bloggers are Most Probably the Last Guardians Against the “Barbarians At The Gate”, Bloggers can all be Rest Assured, that the Mainstream Media & Especially the LEFT, will be Gunning For Bloggers In Every Which Way They Can.

So Why Give Them A Target By Being As Sloppy & As Corrupt As Them?

Best Regards . . . Howard Galganov

  1. Howard.. Obama has the media on his side and they’ll do their utmost to downplay this and interrupt it as best aqs they can. They’ll stoop to any level to throw a monkey wrench in the business of any rightist domestic or foreign (Netanyahu),
their rainson d’etre to cause maximum damage.

  2. Well put old man. “Know the truth and truth shall make you free the”. I have a great dislike for those piss in my face with the wind blowing and try to tell you me it Is rain.

  3. I read the comment you are talking about and am glad you responded the way you did. I think you are 100percent correct in what you said, and it was good for him to apologise.
Thanks for being so informed and accurate to give us who are not as gifted the important news.

  4. Howard:

Point well taken. This reminds me of the situation with the Duke University lacrosse players who were falsely accused of raping a girl at a party. The attorney general, the University and the media had an axe to grind in accusing the players and destroying their lives. Only through intense investigation and actual facts exonerating the players did we find out that the accuser was a liar. As the saying goes,”people are entitled to their opinions, but, not their own set of facts”

  5. So often the truth is stranger than fiction. In this world today there are few reasons to fabricate. Both sides of the equation give plenty of grist for the mill, although I am of the belief that the leftists certainly give in abundance, much more than the other side.

  6. I agree with you Howard, as usual, that bloggers as well as the Media get it “right” the first time – Freedom of Speech is not just freedom to say/print/post ANYTHING YOU WANT EVER – the speaker must, by decorum, exercise discretion, integrity maturity, responsibility and civility…or they should, in my opinion. In this digital age, what’s on the net just doesn’t go away, ever – whether it’s true/right, or wrong/misleading (intentional or not).

  7. The title of your Editorial says it all! We all know that COMMON SENSE is very limited these days. Some people think because they have a RIGHT that they can ABUSE it as they WISH! The ABUSES are made by those who FEEL and ARE DESPERATE to PROVE their POINTS and/or BELIEFS, thus they OFTEN EXAGGERATE & LIE! The DEMOCRATS/FAR LEFT are a PRIME EXAMPLE of this ABUSE! These people also FEAR THE TRUTH and this is WHY they CONTINUE to ATTACK Pres. Trump who DOES NOT FEAR THE TRUTH! GO TRUMP GO! AMEN!

  8. I’m REALLY CONFUSED, Howard…..but “GOOD FOR YOU IN STICKING UP FOR WHAT IS/WAS CORRECT”! I REALLY ADMIRE YOU FOR THAT AWESOME QUALITY, H.G.!! THAT REALLY TOOK COURAGE, ON YOUR PART…..ALTHOUGH I, FOR ONE DID MISS YOUR “BROADCAST” TODAY!!! THANKS SO VERY MUCH, FOR DOING THIS “BLOG ON A DAILY BASIS”, Howard, …..YOU, & OUR WONDERFUL PRES. TRUMP, FORTUNITELY HAVE THE “SAME WONDERFUL MESSAGE” of “FREEDOM NO MATTER WHAT”…..MAY GOD BLESS YOU BOTH”!!!!! AMEN! AMEN!!

  9. It is the purpose of “bloggers” to promote thought and provoke comment so as to get the full range and scope of matters before people. That said in pursuit of “pursuing opinion”, zealous mistakes can be just that “The pen is mightier than the Sword”, but it’s not an allowable Nuclear Weapon, in either promoting comments, nor flat out character assassination and lies. I am guilty SOMETIMES of not doing my own real “Due Dilligance” to assure my readers that what they read is totally verified

  10. The problem is: who is the arbiter of what is “true” or isn’t “true.” Thus, it is the marketplace of many expressing their freedom of expression that, ultimately, will bring us what exactly is true or untrue. So unless someone is blatantly libeling another person (and there is a whole body of law that sets the standard for this) I believe the best course is to let people say or write what they want; the truth, like cream, will eventually rise to the top.

  11. Good for you, Howard! There’s a big difference between saying, “I don’t believe someone” and saying, “He/She lied”! The sooner people realize this, the less mudslinging will take place. Many time I have either believed or not believed something~~only to find later that it was MY error and NOT a lie!!

  12. Lots of “Fake News” today since people can’t decipher truth from fiction! “Bloggers” aren’t concerned if what they post is truth (often don’t know what they’re talking about)! I enjoy reading “comments” people make after On-line articles (learn more from them than article itself), but these comments also reflect how “messed up in the head” some people really are! We’ve become a “nation of liars” (even when “under Oath”) thanks to “Freedom of Speech”! The Truth is difficult to know or hear! Why?

  13. Unfortunately the mainstream media uses front page lies as propaganda then uses back page retractions. The harm was done without consequence. It is like those 19.95 money back guarantee gadgets, they are crap, sell millions on the 10.95 shipping and handling, and is pefectly legal because of the money back part minus shipping and handling. I appreciate the truth you put out and the fact you will retract statements if find find they are not factual. You are a true patriot!

  14. You mention, “IT DOESN’T JUST SEEM TO ME, but it is Indeed the Case, that Writers and other Media Types (Radio & Television), which include Journalists & Pundits (Opinion Writers), who work for Mainstream Media with Large Research Staffs, Editors & Fact Checkers . . . GET IT WRONG ALL TOO OFTEN.” They not only get it wrong but the lame stream media are so left biased and have Trump Derangement Syndrome that they literally LIE all the time.
