I’m A Political Junky. And I Can’t Help Myself.

There's nothing like a US election. And this one! It's like the Super Bowl, the World Series, the Stanley Cup and the NBA Championship all rolled into one. The only thing that can make it better is if there was a Presidential campaign happening as well.

The first step to a cure, is to acknowledge the problem. In my case, that acknowledgment only makes the problem worse. I’m HOOKED!

I want to hear all the debates. I can’t possibly get TOO much of the political attack ads. Especially the nasty suckers which under normal circumstances would lead to a duel at dawn.

I love the deceptions, the intrigue, the changing loyalties and the all important media with their prognostications. They’re usually wrong. Especially in this campaign where everything seems to be too close to call. Even the one week replacement of a dead guy, with a walking dead guy (Mondale), is too close to call.

Every seat in the House of Representatives is up for grabs. All 435 of them. As I write this, it is held by the Republicans, but not by much.

One third of the Senate is up for grabs. And this is where the big boys get to play. One victory either way could give control of the Senate to one Party or the other. And with it, enormous power. One seat to the “right”, and the Democrats can kiss their liberal butts goodbye.

Here’s the ultimate prize: A Republican Presidency. A Republican House of Representatives and a Republican Senate. And with it, a whole new Conservative agenda for the world’s ONLY super power and global economic juggernaut.

For the Democrats, the best they can do is squeak to a win in the Senate, and pray for a miracle in the House of Representatives. In America, everything’s possible. But if I was an odds-maker, I’d put my money on the Bush Team.

George W is no longer the unknown and untried. He is no longer the butt of political humor and bad jokes. Bush has proven his bonafides, and has made America proud. And if anything, he’s the sole reason why so many Democrats are behaving like Republicans.

If this election was prior to 9/11, I’d say, the Democrats would probably sweep. And the Republicans would be trying to hide their President. But it’s after 9/11, and the strongest asset in the Republican arsenal is none other than George W Bush.

And to a Political Junky like me, the drama unfolding is spectacular. Can a once upon a time political joke, single handedly carry on his shoulders, enough votes to win the whole game and control the Upper and Lower Houses in the Congress? And then change the direction of the world? I think he can.

This is indeed the “Best Show On Earth”. Especially for someone who is, as addicted as me. I’m so excited, I can just “plautz”.

  1. Well said. Where does it end. I defy anyone to deny they have not make private comments that would cast us all in an unfavorable light in one way or another. Are we too far gone? Will we ever experience true freedom? God help us all!
