LET ME REVERSE THE ORDER OF THE HEADLINE – PLUS ONE:
The Ugly, The Bad, The Good & The Very Good.
BUT FIRST . . . THANK YOU! – THANK YOU! – THANK YOU!
Thank You To All The People . . . Far Too Many People for Me to Personally Respond-To, who Have Shown Great Concern, Prayers & Best Wishes for My Speedy Recovery, From All Over The World . . . America, Canada, England, Australia, Israel – Etc.
As Much as I am Overwhelmed by the Best Wishes I am Receiving from all Over the Globe . . . No One Deserves My Gratitude More Than Does Anne, My Wife Of Almost 53-Years.
Anne Has Never Left My Side From The Day We Met No Matter The Circumstances. But Neither Have I Ever Flinched When it Came to Standing Side by Side with Anne . . . “Until Death Do You Part” . . . Was (Is) A Vow For Us That Carries Sublime Meaning.
Anne & I Are Both Personally Blessed.
SO – TO END THE SPECULATION . . .
I Would Love To Write That I Fell And Fractured My Right Hip While Doing Something Heroic . . . But I Would Be Lying To You & Myself. I Fell Off the Steps of our RV while Carrying Two Heavy Sacks (One In Each Hand) of Laundry to the Pick-Up, Headed for the Laundromat.
I Should Have Gone Down the Stairs Carrying Nothing, and then Have Taken the Laundry Bags from the Top of the Stars to the Pick-Up . . . But I Didn’t, And This Is The Consequence.
I Was Taken By Ambulance To The Grand Strand Hospital (Myrtle Beach), where I was Admitted, Run Through a Myriad of Tests, Assigned a Room, and Operated Upon the Next Morning.
I Just Want To Add This Point About Canada’s Socialized Medicine. The Elderly Father of one of Our Closest Friends, a Gentleman Anne & I Have Known for More than 40-Years, Slipped About a Month Ago at His Retirement/Nursing Home. He Too Broke His Hip, and After Waiting to be Examined at the Emergency Ward in Cornwall Ontario, He was Placed for Two Days in One of the Hospital’s Corridors, Waiting To Be Operated Upon.
I Think a Measure of Socialized Medicine is Great When it Works . . . But It Isn’t Worth A Hill Of Beans When It Doesn’t.
HERE’S THE SKINNY . . .
I’m Not Going To Sit On My Ass Waiting To Get Better . . . Literally, As Soon as the Anesthetic Began Wearing-Off, Just by Happenstance, I Found a Canadian Government (Province Of Alberta) Website that Detailed the Recovery Regime Needed to Regain the Full Use of a Fractured Hip . . . And Off I Went Doing The Exercises.
The Slightest Movement With A Recovering Hip Is Extremely Painful . . . But The Result of Not Moving, is Much Worse . . . So I Started the Exercises the Moment I was Able, and the More I Did, from Hour to Hour, Made a Huge Difference, to the Point that the Hospital Was Not in a Hurry to Discharge-Me, At Least Not Nearly as Much as I was in a Hurry to Get Back to our RV and the Boys (The Falconator & The Mac Attack) . . . So I Pushed The Envelope & Came Back Home (RV) Yesterday Afternoon.
I Fell Late Friday Afternoon (February 20, 2026). Ambulanced to the Hospital Mid-Friday Evening. Operated-On Saturday Morning. Hospitalized for Three Nights. and Discharged by My Request Monday Afternoon.
It’s Really Difficult to Move in the RV, but Not Impossible, which is Where I will Remain Exercising for About One Week Before I Step Outside.
Anne & I Are Blessed with RV Neighbors who Volunteered to Do Whatever they Could to Help, and with a Magnificent South Carolinian Woman we Became Very Close-To Over that Past Few Years, who Won’t Leave our Side Until She is Convinced that we will be Fine Without Her Help.
We Also Have Friends from Back Home who were Making Arrangements to Fly to where we are, and One Couple who were Preparing to Drive to Myrtle Beach in their F-350 . . . To Trailer Us, The Boys & Our RV Back Home To Canada.
My Sister & Brother-In-Law Wanted to Get-Off their Caribbean Cruise Ship Getaway, Once they Read Anne’s Notification Published on Galganov.com of my Accident, To Fly To Myrtle Beach To Be With Us.
We Were (Are) Grateful For All The Offers To Help . . . But With Gratitude, We Turned Them All Down.
I HURT MY ASS . . . BUT MY MIND STILL WORKS & I CAN STILL WRITE:
No One Is Getting Rid-Of-Me That Easily, I Will Try to Write Every Day, as the World is Cascading Down the Road to Perdition.
I Will Watch The Presidential Speech Of The Union Tonight . . . and will Write About-It & Other Important Issues Hopefully by Tomorrow, As Long As I Am Strong Enough To Sit & Type.
AS FOR THE TITLE OF THIS EDITORIAL IN REVERSE:
The Ugly Was The Fall. The Bad Was The Pain. The Good Was The Care I Received.
The Very Good . . . Was the Outpouring of Support & Love I Received from Readers Worldwide, Which Is The Greatest Medicine That Exists . . . Thank You All Again.
Best Regards . . . Howard Galganov

Prayers answered! 🙂
Happy to hear your surgery went well and that you are on your way to a full recovery. All our best to you and Anne.
Glad to hear you’re on the mend. Your indomitable spirit is truly inspiring and contagious, Howard! I think I can safely speak for everyone here in saying we would never have believed less of and from you. Speedy recovery, my friend!
Prayerful for a fast complete recovery for you and patience for Anne. We did the RV thing for about 20 years. The RV steps are where a lot of accidents happen. After watching others get hurt I became very cautious.
Sure & be gory ye must have some Scotish blood in ye for that is we react too many times for our own good. Me oldest brother died in the hospital due to the same problem. He busted his hip and when to visit Jesus. Love ya Lad. Charles
Wonderful to hear that you are using your mind so quickly. We all look forward to hearing from you whenever you feel up to writing a blog
A very gracious acknowledgment. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to you and thanks to Anne.
Am grateful all the prayers were answered. I was an RN in Ontario for many years and was surprised to learn when we moved to the USA that people didn’t have to wait a year for hip surgery. I had thought Canada had the best healthcare but oh did I learn after working here in the US that no it is not. If that fall you had, had to happen I’m so happy it happed here in South Carolina. Keep up with your exercises HG, was surprised we got your article so soon. Many Blessings to Anne.
I have had many falls, fractured wrist 3 times, knee, etc and the answer to recovery is what you are doing. The Exercises must be done, even though painful at times, for full recovery and back to normal. Good luck on full recovery.
Glad to have you back in record time, as I had hoped!
Great news on your SPIRIT and prognosis. Hope all goes well for you guys and you can continue on seamlessly with your truly appreciated observations on the lunacy surrounding us. The State of the Union tonight should provide you with much comedic relief (it is “funny” to note that “comedic” and “medic” have no similarity in their definitions). All my best to you and yours!!
